Takeaways from becoming an award winning filmmaker

Back in 2014, I won best undergraduate drama at the Royal Television Society Awards West.

This is how I won it and why it’s relevant to your business.

So the film I made to win the award, I took heavy influence from films that already existed.

One of them being Trainspotting.

The other being Dead Man’s Shoes by Shane Meadows. (Great film if you’ve not seen it)

I took influence from those films, brought my friend Luke, and between the two of us, we created a film with a soundtrack with a voiceover.

We had a lot of fun doing it.

And then before that it won an award.

Now that is relevant in your business because you don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

You can take something that’s already working, make it better, make it slightly different, make it your own, and have fun doing it.

And then before you know it, you’ll have some success and you can ride that wave whilst enjoying what it is that you do.
